For anyone who knows me or follows any of my social media platforms, you know I just love my niece and nephew out here in California, and I make it a point to shower them with love, affection and healthy desserts every chance I can. But this week was extra special for me! This week, my little nephew, Aidan, turned 4 years old. If that wasn’t enough of a reason to celebrate, my little niece from New Hampshire came to visit as well, so you know I had to throw an extra special, cute and healthy birthday party!
The day started off by sending the family, both of my nieces and nephew, off for a fun filled morning at the Safari Park while I worked with a few Pilates clients and then raced home to make his raw banana cheesecake. I already knew the theme was wild animals so finding the perfect decor was quite simple. But finding the perfect little gifts for the goodie bags was a little more tricky.
The tricky part is finding something for a 4 year old boy, 3 year old girl and 16 month old little girl and having them try to fit in those cute little goodie bags. I decided to get them all something special and unique. I finally settled on a baseball mitt, dancers ribbon and a stuffed animal. Thank you HOMEGOODS! I seriously should just work there, I spend so much money there!
After that, it was just a race against time. Could I set up a full kids party before they made it back from the zoo? Lucky for me, when you keep it naturally healthy, it is easier to do this than most might think. While the cheesecake was setting in the freezer, I decorated the picnic table (side note: all kids birthday should be done outside, weather permitting… it makes clean up so much easier!). I started with the little goodies, followed up by the party hats and noise makers… come on, they are fun! By the time this was done, I got a call from the hubby telling me they where less than 15 minutes away, so I quickly made 4 fresh bowls of fruits, raspberries, blueberries, strawberries and blackberries and placed them on the table. I quickly added the cute cake toppers to Aidan’s cake to finish it off. (Just between you and me, his banana cheesecake was so large that it never fully set before the party, so we went with a mini cheesecake I had made with the extra filling… it still looked super cute!)
The party was a hit, and all the kids loved it which is all an auntie could ask for. The best part for me is that I was able to create something so special for them all while keeping it healthy!
