Hey everyone! As I write this post today I can’t help but be thankful for all the great things that I have going on in my life right now.
1. The photography for my book is almost halfway done.
2. I have less than three recipes left to develop for my cookbook.
3. My mom and dad are visiting from Vermont.
4. Oh….and I was offered a chance to speak at a TEDx Talk on May 2nd!
Yeah, that’s right! I have the opportunity to speak at a TEDx event on the topic of sugar addiction. But, there is one catch — I have less than one month to prepare for it!Let me start by saying that about two months ago I met with an organizer of TEDx events. I can remember meeting her and thinking, “One day I will do a TEDx Talk.” I do believe that you get what you put out there, but I never anticipated that my chance would come a month later! She contacted me after learning about the cookbook that I am creating, and asked if I would be interested. How could I say no to an opportunity like this? But, I have never given a public speech before!
I am all about “faking it until you make it,” but every time I think about standing in front of 300 people I feel like I am going to pass out. Call me fearless, or just crazy, but I feel like I have to do this! It will literally be the scariest thing that I have ever done, but because sugar addiction is such a personal thing to me, I feel like I need to push myself out of my comfort zone to help others understand just how addictive sugar really is. Also, the fact that my parents are here right now gives me even more incentive to do this speech. Why? Well because my mom is diabetic and my dad and I suffer from food addiction. I have had mine under control for several years now, but my dad suffers daily! It kills me to see not only my parents, but many people around the world suffering from sugar-related diseases. Truth be told, it is the reason I am putting together my cookbook.
Guys, I am going to need any and all of the love and support you can give during these next few weeks to gain the strength that I will need to get past my fear of public speaking and present my TEDx speech. Wish me luck!
